Chaos is present everywhere in countless
ways and forms, while Order remains an unattainable ideal
M.C. Escher, 29 December 1947

if all the pop scientists are to believed, chaos is everywhere,
fractals abound and at every flap of butterfly wings, chain
reactions start and cause remote unseasonal weather patterns
some of it has to do with herr mandelbrott's set of complex
numbers. i just love explaining this one and it gives me endless
pleasure to have finally found a usefull application for the
imaginary number i, the square root of -1 that does
not exist but in the imagination of wily mathematicians that
need such stuff to explain what is happening around us
the fun thing about i is that it all of a sudden produces
the value -1 when squared, helpful indeed, out of the unknown
pops a real number
